The upper portion of a hook which extends from the band on the side opposite the point to the eye. Hook shanks can be characterized as Long or Short and are manufactured in many shapes. The most commonly used hook shanks are the Straight Shank, Humped Shank, Sliced Shank, Curved Down Shank, Central Draught Shank, and Step Shank.
